Discount Genome Sequencing now!

So, today my sister told me that she wants to pay $400 to participate in a private study that will sequence her genome in order to study whether knowing about the results will influence behavior.
Is this what society has come to? Direct to consumer marketing for genome sequencing? Who needs this? Do people not have enough to spend their money on, that they are purchasing sequences of their genome? I tried my best to talk her out of it, but she was adamant about participating. She's curious and wants to know about the mysteries of her genes. "I want to know my likelihood for heart disease," she told me. "Yes, that is exactly what I want too, another way to purchase bad news." There are hundreds of thousands of better things to spend $400 on. Maybe buy health insurance, I bet that would decrease your likelihood of heart disease. Or maybe a gym membership.
Ultimately, I think it is a bad idea for people to use science to try to tell the future. Sequencing your genome shouldn't affect the way you live your life. I think the appropriate saying is, "If it aint broke, dont fix it."

Law school is fun

Hi Guys and Girls,
Law school is fun, you all should do it.
I love going to law school, I get to read tons of interesting cases.
Like, for instance, homicide cases where men beat their wives and maim their daughters, strangers accidentally run over crack babies, and women slip on banana peels at train stations. In other cases, doctors are sued for misdiagnosing lung cancer and decreasing a man's chance of survival from 39% to 25%, or for skin graphs gone awry that leave the victim with hairy palms for life. But on the bright side, there are those harmless fellows who just injest PCP by accident at their family reunions and try to commandeer various trucks, motorcycles and tractors under the mistaken belief that they are an FBI agent who is trying to save the President who has fallen from a plane.
Yes, I laugh, I cry, I watch the Simpsons and discuss the current financial credit crisis before having a nightcap with my Chinese takeout.
